Overwhelmed with euphoria from the discussion I just had with Lisa, I tell Camilo all about it in a message moments after she leaves. He takes a while to respond, saying he’s currently in a voice call with Corey, but that he and Corey are really happy for me.
I finally gain the confidence to be completely out online. I change my username to ‘Victoria’, and edit my profile for the first time in a long while.
Within the next few days, I end up coming out to my dad, with the help of my sister. I was expecting the worst, but to my surprise, he’s really supportive of me. He said that before I was born, he had been hoping for a second girl anyway, and that, at the end of the day, he just wanted me to be myself.
When I tell him about the bullying at school, he reports it to the principal, and after all the names I gave face the necessary consequences or threats of them, the whispers finally stop. I gradually fix my sleep schedule, and start feeling a lot better as a result. My dad and sister struggle with my name and pronouns at first, but after a month, they barely make any mistakes anymore. Even if I can't be out at school, I've been thinking of changing schools next fall, which is coming up soon anyway.
Either way, I finally feel like myself.
